Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Overview

A fully funded scholarship for outstanding non-UK citizens to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree (PhD, MPhil, MLitt, or certain one-year courses) at the University of Cambridge, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Funding

Full Cambridge University Composition Fee plus a maintenance allowance covering living costs for the full course duration

Eligibility

• Must be a citizen of any country outside the UK
• Must apply for and be admitted to an eligible full-time postgraduate course at Cambridge
• Selected on academic excellence, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of others

Application Deadline

Two deadlines: mid-October for US citizens resident in the USA; early December or early January (course-dependent) for all other applicants Always confirm exact dates on the official site before planning your application, since deadlines shift year to year.

How to Apply

1. Apply to a postgraduate course through the University of Cambridge Graduate Application Portal
2. Complete the Gates Cambridge funding section within that same application
3. Write the required Gates Cambridge essay on commitment to improving others' lives
4. Submit two references, at least one academic
5. Await shortlisting and interview if selected
