Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)

Overview

SINGA is a joint scholarship from A*STAR and Singapore's major universities (NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT) that funds international students pursuing a PhD or EngD in science and engineering. It is bond-free and covers tuition, a monthly stipend, a settlement allowance and an airfare grant for up to four years of doctoral research.

Funding

Full PhD tuition fees for up to 4 years, a monthly stipend of SGD 2,200 (rising to SGD 2,700 after passing the Qualifying Examination), a one-time settlement allowance of SGD 1,000, and an airfare grant of up to SGD 1,500

Eligibility

• Open to international students (not previously on a free Singapore scholarship)
• Strong undergraduate and/or master's academic results required
• Intended for PhD/EngD research in science, engineering or technology fields
• No prior enrolment in a Singapore degree on scholarship
• Application made directly through the SINGA/A*STAR portal, choosing a host university or A*STAR institute

Application Deadline

Applications generally open around September and close around 1 December each year for the following August PhD intake (a secondary January-intake window may run into around June). Always confirm exact dates on the official site before planning your application, since deadlines shift year to year.

How to Apply

1. Browse SINGA host institutions and research areas (A*STAR, NUS, NTU, SUTD, SMU) and identify a project/supervisor of interest
2. Apply through the relevant programme's online application portal and select the SINGA scholarship option
3. Upload all required documents (transcripts, CV, research statement, test scores)
4. Arrange for referees to submit reference letters directly via the SINGA portal at least two weeks before the deadline
5. Attend an interview if shortlisted and await the outcome
