Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships

Overview

Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships are the New Zealand Government's flagship award for international students from eligible developing countries, funding undergraduate, postgraduate and short-term training study. They cover tuition, a living allowance, travel and health insurance, and are designed to build long-term ties between scholars and New Zealand while developing skills needed back home.

Funding

Full tuition fees, a living allowance, establishment/settling-in allowance, medical and travel insurance, return airfares, and research/thesis cost support for postgraduate research students

Eligibility

• Open to citizens of specified eligible partner countries only
• Available for undergraduate, postgraduate/doctoral study and short training courses
• Applicants generally need relevant work or study background related to their proposed field
• English language requirements apply for tuition in English
• Selection favours candidates likely to return and contribute to their home country's development

Application Deadline

Applications generally open several months ahead and close around 31 March for study commencing the following year; the online system can close early in countries with high application volumes, so early submission is recommended. How to Apply

2. Register and complete the application through the online MFAT scholarship application system
3. Submit certified transcripts, a study/career plan and other supporting documents
4. If shortlisted, sit any required interviews or English-language tests
5. Apply separately for admission to the relevant New Zealand institution once notified of shortlisting
