Stipendium Hungaricum

Overview

Hungary's flagship government scholarship programme, established to internationalize Hungarian higher education. It covers full tuition, contributes toward accommodation costs, and pays a monthly stipend for bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's, and PhD study in English at Hungarian universities, available to students from partner countries with a bilateral agreement.

Funding

Full tuition, monthly stipend (HUF 40,000-140,000, roughly $110-390 depending on degree level), dormitory accommodation, and health insurance

Eligibility

• Citizen of a country with an active Stipendium Hungaricum bilateral agreement with Hungary
• Meet the academic entry requirements for your chosen degree level and programme
• Apply via the sending partner in your home country (embassy, ministry, or designated body) as well as the online portal
• Good command of English (or Hungarian, for Hungarian-taught programmes)
• Have not already completed a degree at the same level funded by Stipendium Hungaricum

How to Apply

1. Confirm your country has a bilateral Stipendium Hungaricum agreement with Hungary and identify your country's designated sending partner authority
2. Register at apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu
3. Select up to two study programmes and complete the online application with transcripts, CV, motivation letter, and language certificates
4. Submit through your home country's designated sending authority as well as the online platform
5. Await results, generally announced several months after the January deadline
