Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

Overview

The Chinese Government Scholarship, administered by the China Scholarship Council, is one of the largest fully funded scholarship programs in the world, supporting international students at bachelor's, master's and doctoral level at hundreds of Chinese universities. It typically covers tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend and comprehensive medical insurance, and can be applied for through a Chinese embassy or directly through a participating university.

Eligibility

• Open to non-Chinese citizens in good health
• Age limits apply (generally under 25 for bachelor's, 35 for master's, 40 for doctoral applicants)
• Must meet the admission requirements of the chosen Chinese university/program
• Some programs require HSK Chinese proficiency; others are offered in English
• Apply via embassy recommendation or university (Type A/Type B) channels

Application Deadline

Applications generally open around December and close between January and April depending on the Chinese embassy/agency or host university (the CSC's own overall deadline is typically around late April). Always confirm exact dates on the official site before planning your application, since deadlines shift year to year.

How to Apply

1. Choose the application category - Type A (via a Chinese Embassy/Consulate) or Type B (directly through a CSC-designated host university)
2. Register on the CSC Online Application System (studyinchina.csc.edu.cn) and obtain the relevant agency number from Campus China
3. Prepare and upload documents: transcripts, degree certificates, study plan/research proposal, passport copy, Foreigner Physical Examination Form, and language certificates
4. Submit the application to the embassy or university before their internal deadline
5. Await notification of results, typically by July for the following September intake
