Canada's premier doctoral scholarship, awarded to Canadian and international students pursuing PhD studies who demonstrate leadership and a high standard of scholarly achievement across health, natural sciences/engineering, and social sciences/humanities.
Funding
CAD $50,000 per year for three years
Eligibility
- Must be nominated by a Canadian institution holding a Vanier quota (no direct applications accepted)
- Pursuing a full-time doctoral degree (or eligible combined degree) in Canada
- Demonstrated academic excellence, research potential, and leadership
Application Deadline
Institutions set internal deadlines ahead of forwarding nominations to the national Vanier-Banting Secretariat, typically around late October Always confirm exact dates on the official site before planning your application, since deadlines shift year to year.
How to Apply
- Gain admission to a doctoral program at a Vanier-eligible Canadian institution
- Prepare your application (research proposal, transcripts, leadership statement, references) with your institution's graduate office
- Be selected internally, as your institution can only forward a limited number of nominees
- Await the national interdisciplinary selection committee's decision
- Results are typically announced in the spring
